Access to the Amazon Seller Central product upload

The Seller Central Dashboard is your starting point. This is where you manage your products, view sales, orders and much more. To create a new product, click on the three dashes at the top left, go to "Catalog" and select "Add products".

Quick guide:

  1. Open dashboard
  2. Select three lines at the top left
  3. Click on catalog
  4. Add products select

If you want to sell a product that is not yet available on Amazon, click on "I want to add a product that is not sold on Amazon". This is particularly important at the beginning.

Product search and category selection:
Enter the product name (e.g. "teapot") in the search field. Amazon will automatically suggest suitable categories. Take a look at which categories your competitors are in - this will help you to find the best categorization. Please note: The category influences the sales fees. Products in the DIY section are often cheaper than in "Kitchen & Household". If several categories fit, choose the one with the lowest fees as long as it matches your product.

Tip:
Compare categories carefully, this will save you money in the long run.

Step-by-step instructions: Enter product data

This is where the real work starts - but don't worry, with these instructions everything remains clear.

Product variants: Why always choose "Yes"?

Amazon will ask you whether there are different variants of your product (e.g. different sizes or colors). Even if you currently only offer one variant, always set "Yes" here. This makes it easier for you to add more variants later without having to use complicated stock files.

Advantages:

  • Simple addition of new variants later
  • Saves time when expanding the product range

Important product information: Item type and model number

  • Item type labeling: Indicate what the item is (e.g. "teapot"). Click on the question mark to see what Amazon requires.
  • Model number: If you don't have one yet, create your own list (e.g. with Excel). This way you can keep track of your products and add numbers later.
  • Manufacturer: In most cases, this is you or your brand.

Pro tip:
Make sure that your model numbers are unique. This also helps with queries and support.

Offer settings: Price and shipping

Now set the list price. Select the appropriate shipping channel:

  • Shipping by Amazon (FBA): Amazon takes care of storage and shipping.
  • Shipping by retailer (FBM): You ship yourself.

Choose FBA if you want less effort and want Amazon to take care of the logistics.

Product details in detail

This is where it gets down to business - the more precise you are, the better.

Mandatory fields:

  • Product description: Write an informative, SEO-optimized text. What makes your product special? What advantages does it offer?
  • Product highlights/bullet points: A maximum of five bullet point benefits or features. Focus on what customers find most important.
  • Material specifications: What is the main material? (e.g. "borosilicate glass")

Optional information (recommended):

  • Color: Even if not mandatory, important for many buyers.
  • Dishwasher safe: Yes/No
  • Capacity: Filling volume in liters or ml
  • Lid available?
  • Number of the set: For sets with several parts
  • Dimensions: length, width, height, preferably in cm

An overview could look like this:

FieldMandatory?Example
Product descriptionYes"This teapot ..."
BulletpointsYes1. high quality glass
MaterialYesBorosilicate glass
CapacityOptional1.5 liter
ColorOptionalTransparent
DimensionsOptional12 x 12 x 12 cm

Fill in the fields as completely as possible. The more information you provide, the better customers will understand your product.

Supplement variant overview

If you have different variants (e.g. 1.5 liters and 2 liters), you can enter them here. You assign a unique product number (EAN/GTIN), a price and the available quantity to each variant.

Pay attention to red boxes or exclamation marks: they indicate that mandatory information is still missing.

Checklist variants:

  • Create each variant (e.g. size, color)
  • Enter EAN/GTIN per variant
  • Specify price
  • Define quantity

You can also find more information on how to add products and manage stock in the official Amazon help article Adding products.

Legal and safety: compliance with regulations

To ensure that your product is sold legally, check the following details:

  • Country of origin: Where does your product come from? (e.g. Germany)
  • Batteries included? Only specify if applicable.
  • Hazardous goods: Observe the relevant regulations if you distribute hazardous substances (e.g. chemicals).
  • Liquid contents: Only specify if required.

Short checklist:

  • Country of origin registered
  • Battery specification checked
  • Hazardous goods tested
  • Liquid contents specified

This ensures that your product is launched in compliance and without any problems.

Upload and arrange images

Images are a key to success on Amazon. They often decide whether a customer clicks on or buys.

This is how you proceed:

  1. Select the main image: The first image is the cover image, it should show the product clearly and professionally.
  2. Add additional images: A maximum of five are recommended, e.g. product in use, details, size comparison.
  3. Change order: Specify which image appears in which position (e.g. volume should be visible as the second image).
  4. Delete wrong images: Uploaded something by mistake? Simply remove it again.

Important tips:

  • Use high-quality, sharp images.
  • Stick to Amazon's specifications (white background, sufficiently high resolution).
  • Show your product from multiple perspectives.

Save and publish product

Almost done! Now click on "Save and exit". Check that there are no more red exclamation marks - they indicate missing mandatory information, such as the EAN number.

Final check:

  • Have you filled in all mandatory fields?
  • No more error messages?
  • Product images uploaded?

After saving, your product is visible in Seller Central and customers can order it directly.

Tips for handling many products

The method described above is ideal for one or two products. However, if you want to offer many products (e.g. 10, 20 or more), it quickly becomes tedious to enter everything individually.

Alternative: Flat file / stock file

  • With a flat file (Excel spreadsheet in Amazon format) you can upload many products at once.
  • Ideal for large assortments and time savings.

A detailed tutorial on this is planned. Are you interested in instructions for bulk uploading via flat file? Then look forward to the next video!
