With product videos on Amazon, you increase the likelihood of purchase, quickly explain the benefits of your item and set yourself apart from the competition. Wouldn't it be great if you could upload your product video quickly and professionally directly to SellerCentral without having to do hours of research first? That's exactly what you'll learn here, step by step.

Overview & preparation: What you need to upload a video

Product videos on Amazon are much more than just a nice extra. In just a few seconds, they can show how your product is used, explain functions, arouse emotions and thus often convince more than pure images or text.

Before you start, you should have the following points ready:

  • Your finished product video: Optimally tailored, clear and produced to a high standard.
  • A convincing title: maximum 60 characters, to the point.
  • ASIN(s) of your product: The Amazon Standard Identification Number is the core of the allocation.
  • Brand name: Make sure that your brand is created in SellerCentral.
  • Thumbnail image: Optional, but recommended. Highlights the video visually.

Tip: Take some time to think of a clear title beforehand. This will save you time when uploading and present your video in an appealing way.

Upload product video to SellerCentral - step by step

Although the upload is not deeply hidden, it is not entirely self-explanatory. Here are the instructions from daily seller practice:

1. login and navigation to the video upload area

  1. Log in to SellerCentral.
  2. In the top menu bar you will find the item Catalog.
  3. Click on Upload and manage videos in the drop-down menu.

Sounds a bit cumbersome? Unfortunately, Amazon is sticking to this rather hidden placement in 2025. But the process afterwards is simple.

2. upload video

  1. In the overview, you will first see all videos that have already been uploaded (if available). Otherwise the list is empty.
  2. Press the Upload video button.
  3. Now select the appropriate video file from your computer.

Note: Amazon recommends MP4 or MOV. Make sure that your video is in one of these common formats and offers good image quality.

3. enter the title of the video

  • You can use a maximum of 60 characters.
  • Examples:
    • Explanatory video product XY
    • Tutorial brand XY
    • Fire video - Presentation

The title is displayed to the side of the video when customers scroll through the gallery. It should directly reveal what the video offers - short, concise terms work best.

Never put a description in the title - concentrate on keywords and direct statements.

4. assign ASIN(s)

  • Enter one or more ASINs.
  • Ideal if your video covers several variants or entire product lines (e.g. brand video).
  • This increases the visibility of the video for all assigned products.

5. set video type (optional)

  • Selection options such as "Explanatory video", "Product overview" or "Troubleshooting" are available.
  • The field is not mandatory, but can help to structure the internal sorting.

If you are not sure, simply leave the field blank.

6. select brand

  • Select your brand in the dropdown. This must be stored in SellerCentral in advance.
  • Amazon needs this information for correct allocation and display.

7. language of the video

  • German is standard.
  • If your video is in English or is intended for another market, you can adjust the language accordingly.

8. customize thumbnail (optional)

  • Amazon automatically takes a still image from the video.
  • However, you can upload your own image, which can be a maximum of 5 MB large (JPG recommended).
    • Tip: Use free online tools for image compression if the file is too large.
  • An individual thumbnail improves the click rate because it catches the eye.

9. complete upload

  • Check all entries again.
  • Click on Send.
  • Your video will now be checked and then displayed on the product page.

Amazon usually checks videos within one working day. As long as the video meets the guidelines, it is automatically published.

Tips on video length and structure

Product videos and promotional videos have different goals and requirements. For classic product videos in the listing, 30 to 60 seconds is fine - as long as they offer added value. If you are explaining complex functions, the video can be a little longer as long as it remains exciting.

For video ads, you should aim for a length of 15 to a maximum of 20 seconds. This leaves enough time to get attention quickly and convey the core message. An example video of 47 seconds is too long and usually harms the performance of the ad.

Short, clear, dynamic - this pays off particularly well with ads. With longer explanatory videos, the focus is more on details and problem solving. For the standard listing, however, the following remains: quickly arouse interest, show benefits, demand a conclusion!

Video ads on Amazon: How to set up video ads

Product video and video ad - both show your product, but the use is different.

Product video:

  • Displayed directly on your Amazon product page
  • No advertising budget necessary
  • Visible to all customers who click on the listing

Video Ad:

  • Runs as an advertisement (for example between search results)
  • You control which target group it is visible to
  • Needs an advertising budget and targeted campaign setup

Step-by-step: Create video ads (sponsored brands)

  1. Register in SellerCentral
  2. Click on Advertising in the menu bar at the top
  3. Then click on Manage campaigns
  4. Click on Create campaign

This is where the actual setup of your ad begins:5. select Sponsored Brands as the campaign type

  • Create a name for the campaign
  • Set a suitable daily budget
  1. Scroll down to the section Video
    • Select "Video" instead of "Product" here
  2. Click on Upload video and select your video file
    • The video can be a maximum of 45 seconds. For best results, however, a length of 15 to 20 seconds is recommended.
    • Goal: Catch attention quickly so that users click - don't overload them with information.

Tip: First impressions count, especially with ads. Dynamic cuts and a clear message make all the difference.8. Choose the product (or ASIN) for which the video is to be advertised9. Finalize the other campaign settings (target group, bids, etc.) according to your strategy10. Submit the campaign for review

After approval by Amazon, your video ad starts automatically. With good, short videos, you can quickly collect initial data and optimize on this basis.

Common errors and quick solutions

Here are a few common stumbling blocks that you can avoid right away:

  • Video too long: Ads really shouldn't be longer than 20 seconds
  • Bad title: Always clear, concise and with product reference - not a general slogan
  • No or incorrect ASIN: Without correct assignment, the video will not appear for the correct product
  • Inappropriate thumbnail: Use meaningful preview images, not an automatic snapshot

If you find that the image is too large, a JPEG compressor will help you. You can find these tools online for free, simply search for "JPEG compression".
